The Saving


Founded in 1978, Huntington House is a luxury care home set within 30-acres in Surrey. What makes this 35 bedroom nursing and care home so special is it’s family centred, caring, compassionate and considered approach.

The Brief

We were contacted by the client on the recommendation of their accountants, to carry out a detailed cost review.

Following meetings held on site with the client and their teams, we quickly identified areas of potential cost reduction. In the face of rising food, fuel and wage inflation, we quickly identified the need to carry out a full competitive tender across all food categories. The aim being to drive down cost whilst maintaining quality and service.

The Outcome

Following the tender process, we worked with the successful partner to help deliver savings in excess of 10.65%, which against inflation running at +10% was a good achievement. Furthermore, we then identified savings of 9.7% by switching to a local dairy supplier, who was able to improve service and frequency.

Salim continued to work closely with the client and suppliers to help manage and bed down the transition, through operational challenges and strong communication. He acted as a mediator between the excellent chefs at Huntington and the supplier’s transport, sales and operational teams. Our service and monitoring resulted in the transition settling down and leaving the client in a much better place in terms of both service, quality and value.

We continue to support the client now with innovation, new ideas and areas where brand substitutions can lead to better value.

The Conclusion

By managing this move, working closely between all stakeholders, we’ve achieved the outcome of a happy client and much improved profitability and service.

Savings / Year

We estimate that savings in the first year of transition will exceed £5,000 or almost 10% of spending. We continue to work on identifying further opportunities.

Moving from a very long-standing food supplier was always going to be challenging but Salim’s support with both the foreseen and unexpected issues was invaluable. From facilitating suitable product switches to mutually agreed delivery times, nothing was too much trouble, ultimately ensuring that the cost savings far outweighed the logistical challenges.
