Introduction

As well as a European based facility in Poland, Poeton operate three sites in the UK, two in Gloucester and one in Cardiff and we’re proud to have worked with this prestigious client for over 10 years.

The Brief

We were originally contacted by the client to review their energy contracts, which had been dealt with in a fairly traditional term to term basis, with very little change in strategy. As an energy intensive industry, we immediately set about changing elements of the contracts.

Firstly, we brought all three electricity and gas contracts together to one contract end date, to reduce the administrative burden and simplify the contract tendering process. We also moved supplies for electricity and gas to single source, to aggregate pricing and lower cost. Finally, we also identified wasted costs relating to excessive Available Capacity charges on one of the sites, which led to a further savings.

We’ve also managed to move the timings of the client’s contract renewals into the spring / summer periods to harness lower wholesale prices.

The Outcome

Thankfully, we believe we have protected Poeton for potential cost rises in gas of approaching £250,000 and over £100,000 in electricity costs.

The Conclusion

Having come through the worst of the energy crisis, we’re now in a place where the client’s electricity costs have come back down to a more sustainable level and subsequently, moved the client back into a medium-termed contract with an ongoing watching caution.

An excellent iniEaEve that has also arisen from the last year’s has been the energy efficiency and monitoring that Poeton have not introduced as a standard process, which has led to a 15% reduction in energy consumption!

Savings / Year

By securing a long-term gas contract for the client, we believe we have sheltered Poeton from the extreme rises in the wholesale market, so saving in excess of £500,000 over the past four years.

More recently, we have managed to negotiate a lowering of electricity costs equivalent to over £170,000 per annum.
